Meet Gary
I hope that someday Allophus is more than just me, but for now, I am all of us here at Allophus.
I am Gary Milante, founder of Allophus. In addition to this project, I currently facilitate a project called GReVD with SIPRI which involves a consortium of global thinkers collaborating on measuring and counting violent deaths. Before GReVD I was Director of Studies for Peace and Development with SIPRI. Before that I was a Senior Economist working on fragile and conflict-affected states at the World Bank. I was involved in a number of projects at the World Bank, most notably as the economist for the World Development Report 2011 on Conflict, Security and Development. Before I studied to become an economist at UC Irvine, I was a hotel manager. Before that a substitute teacher, an English major and an unpaid philosopher. There are many paths that have brought us here and many that lay before us.
I really enjoy games and gaming. The draw for me isn’t winning, it is the strategic action, making choices that matter and having impact for the best outcome. If you’ve played a game with me, you know that I don’t play to beat you, I play for us to both play our best game. Sometimes that is competitive and sometimes it is cooperative.
I hope I’m helping my wife, Julie, play her best game of life. She helps me play my best game all the time. Together, we help a small dog named Olivia to, occasionally, make her best play. I hope my friends and colleagues are living better lives because I help them with their best plays. If I work with you consulting, using Allophus, I’m doing it because I want you to play your best game.
